What your numbers mean for League of Legends

League is more forgiving than a tac shooter — you’re clicking the ground, not snapping to heads — but every input still waits on a round trip. Under 70 ms, last-hits, skillshots and flash plays happen when you press them. Past it, you’re playing the game a beat behind everyone else in the fight.

The average still hides the real damage: one spike over 300 ms at dragon or baron is a lost objective and a lost game, and 1% packet loss is the skillshot that “went through” them. That’s why the test above counts spikes and loss separately.

Fixes that actually work for League of Legends

  1. Check your ISP’s route to Riot Direct. Riot runs its own backbone (Riot Direct) to cut hops between you and the server — but your ISP decides how your traffic reaches it, and the cheapest route isn’t the shortest. If your ping is far above what your region should get, run the 10-minute VPN A/B test: if a different route wins, that’s evidence for a support ticket.
  2. Kill Wi-Fi spikes. Full bars mean nothing — Wi-Fi spikes from interference your speed test never sees. If you’re on Wi-Fi, test your own link; one Ethernet cable fixes the oldest “lag” complaint in all-chat.
  3. Stop the background downloads. If your ping only explodes when someone streams or Windows decides to update, that’s bufferbloat — your router queuing game packets behind bulk traffic. Run the full monitor’s 8-second stress test to confirm.
  4. Know which server you’re on. Your League server is fixed to your account’s region. Playing on a far region (or a fresh account abroad) means a high floor no fix at home can lower — the test above shows you that floor before you blame the router.
